The Netherlands AI Coalition (NL AIC) is launching the National AI course for the Creative Industry in collaboration with the Creative Industry Key Sector. The AI awareness course teaches the creative and cultural sector about artificial intelligence (AI) and shows how AI can be used in daily practice. It is a free online course that takes about three hours and can be followed whenever you want at your own pace. This course for creative and cultural professionals had its festive launch on 21 June in the Teylers Museum in Haarlem.

AI is a system technology that is developing rapidly. It is playing an increasingly important role in the creative and cultural sector. AI is making some jobs disappear, but it is also creating new jobs and new creative possibilities.

From AI for editorial work to AI in the theatre

Over recent years, it has become more and more evident that AI can assist and enrich the creative and cultural sector. In the AI course, Nadia Piet (founder of AIxDesign) takes course students through ten tracks that can be followed at your own pace. The tracks explain basic AI terms such as machine learning, algorithms and deep learning, as well as highlighting various creative and cultural domains. We hear from the media companies NPO and RTL how they use AI for creating a diverse range of programmes; the start-up Lalaland talks about artificial models and the news website NU.nl explores how AI is used in journalism. Examples of AI in dance, music, books, theatre and heritage are also covered. We also take a look at the preconditions for implementing AI successfully and the future opportunities it presents

The course focuses on creative and cultural professionals in all sorts of domains: from museums, libraries, culture and media organisations to the performing arts, designers, journalists and more. The goal of the course is to teach creative and cultural professionals about AI and show them how this technology can be used in daily practice. The course is free, takes about three hours in total and can be taken whenever it suits you best, at your own pace. Everyone who takes the course gets a certificate after completion.

The National AI Course for the Creative Industry (in Dutch) can be followed on the course website, creatief.AI-cursus.nl.

Making knowledge about AI accessible

The NL AIC believes it is important that professionals develop more knowledge about AI, its applications and its impact on their work and sector. That is why the NL AIC is developing various AI awareness courses in collaboration with several key sectors and in collaboration with Stichting Lowercase (Jim Stolze). We have already published the courses AI for Care, AI for Agri-Food, AI for Energy, AI for Education and the National AI course (all in Dutch). The last of these has been completed by more than 300,000 people. Ideally, these courses will kick-start a process that lets educational institutions include AI and other technology in the curriculum to an increasing extent.
