HeatPulse: Reliable insight through the use of AI accelerates energy transition

In order to achieve a favourable economic and climate impact, chain cooperation is necessary. Applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) can achieve a reduction in energy costs, reinforcement of the energy infrastructure and transition in favour of the climate, as well as an acceleration of infrastructural projects with a positive climate impact.

An example is HeatPuls. HeatPuls contributes to energy-neutral buildings in the Netherlands by making the first step towards lower energy consumption more accessible. To make the heat analysis less labour-intensive, a tool has been developed to provide automated insight into the heat loss of homes and neighbourhoods. This tool can provide added value for all users and customers.

Deployment of Artificial Intelligence

The data obtained by means of a heat scan is then converted into an action-oriented report using AI. In this way, the complete analysis becomes a lot less labour-intensive and time-consuming. The obtained report gives a complete and clear overview of the measures to be taken, which the owner of the building can immediately start working with at a much lower cost. This makes the creation of action-oriented insight more accessible and can speed up the energy transition.

The most important advantages of HeatPuls are

  • Automatic, systematic identification and classification of heat leaks in homes.
  • Cheaper insight into heat losses.
  • Action-oriented advice for sustainability.
  • More reliable insights based on measured values instead of modelled estimates.

Ambition

In the future, products should be developed that are directly relevant to municipalities and, for example, housing corporations. Scalability is inherent in the software developed. The ambition is to become the main player in the Netherlands with regard to thermographic scans. Action-oriented insulation advice will be provided on a large scale at a low price. It is expected that this will have a substantial impact on the sustainability of the Netherlands.

In collaboration with:

The initial development of HeatPuls has been carried out with subsidies from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, National schemes EZ-subsidies, Top Sector Energy carried out by the Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland. The parties involved are Nieman Ingenieurs, Enpuls and various municipalities that are already using the services.

Building blocks

The NL AIC collaborates on the necessary common knowledge and expertise, resulting in five themes, also called building blocks. Those are important for a robust impact in economic and social sectors.

Sectors

AI is a generic technology that is ultimately applicable in all sectors. For the development of knowledge and experience in the use of AI in the Netherlands, it is essential to focus on specific industries that are relevant to our country. These industries can achieve excellent results, and knowledge and experience that can be leveraged for application in other sectors.

Become a participant

The Netherlands AI Coalition is convinced that active collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders is essential to stimulate and connect initiatives in Artificial Intelligence. Within fields of expertise and with other stakeholders in the ecosystem to achieve the most significant result possible in the development and application of AI in the Netherlands. Representatives from the business community (large, small, start-up), government, research and educational institutions and civil society organisations can participate.
