Information about use cases

What is Artificial Intelligence (AI)? We speak of AI when a system is capable, just as humans can, of making independent decisions based on observations (data) and learning from data. In particular, the latter characterizes AI. A static pre-programmed decision algorithm is therefore not yet AI. Although AI is still far from approaching human intelligence, there are already a number of successful applications. These applications focus on one specific task and can often surpass the capabilities of humans in this regard. The more relevant data that is available, the better the predictive value becomes. We distinguish AI based on rules and AI based on examples. Then these algorithms get to work with huge amounts of data to learn.

How do we deploy AI?

AI is most commonly used to recognize patterns, make predictions, and provide insights that were previously inaccessible to humans due to a huge amount and complexity of data. This has become possible because, unlike traditional computer programs, algorithms can learn from examples and do not need to be explicitly programmed for each case to reach an outcome. The most common tasks AI performs are inferring information from images (computer vision), extracting insights and patterns from written or spoken text, reading aloud, moving autonomously (robotics) and searching for patterns in a multitude of data (machine learning). These AI systems support humans in their tasks and assessments.
